Key Takeaways

It’s well-known that sleep is important for our health. But did you know unhealthy sleep is associated with lower quality of life and higher risk of chronic disease? To aid sleep, an adjustable bed, like the Sealy Ease Power Base, can enhance comfort and provide personalized support. According to our Reviews Team survey of 1,000 adjustable bed users, more than 40% of respondents decided to purchase an adjustable base bed to help with joint and back pain when sleeping, while more than 41% said it was to help with snoring. Pamela Toto, PhD, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh and occupational therapist with expertise in gerontology, explains that adjustable beds provide numerous benefits for our health and well-being. “[Adjustable beds] can improve safety and independence for persons with functional mobility limitations, increase quality of sleep for persons with chronic health conditions such as low back pain or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and provide ease of daily care for care partners,” Toto asserts.

Sealy Ease Power Base review

Bedroom featuring the Sealy Ease Power Base adjustable split king bed with mattresses

The Sealy Ease Power Base adjustable bed comes in multiple sizes, including split king.

Sealy currently offers one adjustable base model, the Ease Power Base. If you’re perusing the Tempur-Pedic website, you may also find this model there as well because Tempur-Pedic is the parent company of Sealy. The Ease Power Base adjustable bed may be a good option for the price-conscious adult seeking the comfort and support offered by an adjustable bed frame in a basic model, which is why we named it “Best for Basic Features” in our review of the best adjustable beds.

With the touch of a button, you can elevate your head or feet independently to position yourself for reading, watching TV, eating, or sleeping. The head raises as high as 57 degrees and the feet as high as 46 degrees, similar to the three Tempur-Pedic adjustable frames, which elevate the head as high as 60 degrees and the feet as high as 50 degrees. This frame is not entirely without extras—the zero-gravity preset simulates weightlessness to relieve pressure on joints and muscles, which can help alleviate muscle and spinal pain. Found on the internet at https://centerforspineandortho.com/news/neutral-posture-and-zero-gravity-benefits.

The wireless remote makes adjustments simple with two toggles for the head and foot and two preset buttons for flat and zero-gravity presets. While most customer reviews we read were pleased with the remote’s ease of use, some complained it doesn’t have a light (as with some higher-end adjustable bed base remotes) and the child-lock feature was too easily activated by pressing any two buttons at once. The buttons are also fairly small, which may make it harder to use if you have dexterity issues or reduced vision.

Adjustable-height legs allow you to select from five different heights ranging from 4–16 inches for maximum safety, customization, and comfort. This feature could be especially beneficial for older and/or disabled adults with reduced mobility.

Board-certified geriatrician Bettina Y. Chrysofakis-Baiduc, MD, adds that multiple height adjustments can serve as a preventative measure against injuries for older adults with dementia. “An often overlooked benefit [of adjustable beds] is the height adjustments,” Chyrsofakis-Baiduc explains. “Elderly people with cognitive impairments often try to get out of bed without help or simply roll out of bed. Beds that can be set to a very low level prevent serious injury in those cases.”

The Sealy Ease Power Bases comes with adjustable-height legs.

The Disability Rights and Education Defense Fund recommends beds be 20–23 inches from floor to top of mattress.4 With the average mattress measuring 10–12 inches high, this frame will allow you to achieve an accessible bed height, which may help reduce the risk of fall injury. The Ease Power Base is also compatible with most mattresses, so you likely won’t need to invest in a new one if you are happy with yours. Any foam, latex, or hybrid mattress will work. Older, spring-coil mattresses are typically not compatible with adjustable bed bases.

We appreciate that this adjustable base comes in many sizes: twin, twin long, full, queen, king, and California king. It also has split king and split California king options, which consist of two, independently functioning sides. The split models are great for partners who sleep together and appreciate their own settings and adjustments. These split king options, of course, require two mattresses placed side by side and come with two remote controls.

All sizes of the Sealy Ease Power Base have a weight capacity of up to 650 pounds. This is similar to other adjustable bases offered by Tempur-Pedic, while we’ve seen some other brands offer weight capacities up to 750–800 pounds.

Where to buy the Sealy adjustable base

The Ease Power Adjustable Base is available through Sealy, Tempur-Pedic, Home Depot, Mattress Firm, JCPenney, and Pottery Barn.

It’s generally priced best through Sealy or Tempur-Pedic (starting at $899), but it is currently available at Overstock.com in limited sizes starting at $715.

Sealy warranty and returns

The Sealy Ease Power Base bed is not returnable after purchase, as with most other adjustable base beds—although a few manufacturers, like Puffy and Purple, do offer a free trial period.

The full-coverage warranty covers the frame for 25 years, parts for five years, and parts plus labor for three years. If you purchase through Sealy or Tempur-Pedic, white glove delivery is free and takes two to three weeks in most cases. Your frame will be unpacked and assembled for you and all packaging material removed.

Sealy customer reviews

As of July 2023, Tempur Sealy International has an A+ rating with the BBB but only 1.03 out of 5 stars.

Sealy/Tempur and Sealy have surprisingly few reviews on Trustpilot, but Tempur-Pedic has 1.2 out of 5 stars. Complaints included shipping delays, difficulty getting warranties honored, and uncomfortable mattresses. It’s important to note Sealy and Tempur-Pedic sell a lot of mattresses, so most customer reviews are about mattress purchase experiences, not the Ease Power Base.

The Ease Power Base specifically has 4.6 stars out of 5 from Google reviews. Customers mention solid construction (no wobbling or creaking), reliable function, relief from back pain, and a better night’s sleep.

“This base was a perfect complement to our new mattress. Being able to elevate the feet area eases the pressure on my fiancé’s lower back while we sleep. Very sturdy, and this fit right in our King Zinus bed frame without us having to remove any of the middle support bars. We only use the zero-gravity setting to watch TV, but it is comfortable both for my fiancé’s 6’1” and my 5’0” frame. It’s adjustable after all, and once you find that perfect feet/head elevation, it’s absolutely wonderful!”

Maxine, VERIFIED CUSTOMER (Google Reviews)

“Purchased this base to go with our platform bed and Purple mattress. I’ve used it twice to demonstrate what it can do, but zero times for more than a minute. A huge waste of money. I don’t feel like the leg portion of the mattress bends at the same angle as the adjustable base, and either the base and/or mattress slides around much too much. Definitely regret the base purchase.”

April, VERIFIED CUSTOMER (Google Reviews)

“I love the Ease Adjustable Base. It is so much easier to make the bed with this adjustable frame than a standard bed frame. I was having trouble trying to lift a 13-14” mattress up to put the fitted sheet on. Now I don’t have any trouble.”

Bottom line

Research has shown the functions of an adjustable bed can help alleviate the discomfort and pain associated with conditions like arthritis, back pain, [6]Orthopedic and Laser Spine Surgery. The Sealy Ease Power Base offers solid construction at an affordable price. It comes with some extras, like a zero-gravity preset and white glove delivery, but it lacks some of the popular features of more expensive adjustable frames, such as massage, under-bed lighting, and an anti-snoring preset. It has a generous 25-year warranty, but it’s not returnable, so don’t purchase this adjustable if a trial period is important to you. The Ease Power Base also has a full history of happy consumers, which may be enough to overlook the lack of a trial period.
