Chronic sleep deprivation is a serious health issue in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1 in 3 U.S. adults experience daily sleep deprivation [1] Ramos A.R., et al. Sleep Deprivation, Sleep Disorders, and Chronic Disease. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Aug. 31, 2023 . Experts say adults of every age should get seven to nine hours of sleep each night in order to be at their physical and mental best. But the reality is that for many people, getting to sleep and staying asleep is a challenge, whether it’s related to health issues, worries, or an uncomfortable bed [2] National Health Service (NHS). Insomnia. March 12, 2021. . A lack of restful sleep impacts every area of your life—physically, emotionally, and mentally.

A big part of getting restful sleep is having the right mattress. Sealy has been making some of the best mattresses for more than 100 years and offers several options to help accommodate different types of sleepers with a range of physical needs. The Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid mattress offers both memory foam that conforms to your body and innerspring coils that provide needed support, stability, and easier movement. The mattress can be further customized when paired with the Sealy adjustable power base, which is an adjustable bed option.

Backed by research and in-person testing of more than a dozen mattress brands, our Reviews Team tested the most popular mattress from Sealy, the Posturepedic Hybrid, so we could share our in-depth Sealy mattress review and help you get a better night’s sleep.

Additional information

The Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid may not offer all of the luxury features of other similar models, like the luxury-soft firmness and 365-night trial of the Saatva Classic mattress, but some of the features and the lower price make the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid mattress an excellent value from a known and established brand.

Our expert take

The Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid mattress is made with two types of mattress layers. The gel-imbued memory foam Memory foam with small gel pods designed for cooling. is designed to distribute your weight while you sleep, preventing pressure points The parts of the sleeper’s body that are in direct contact with the mattress, such as the backside, shoulder, hips, and ribcage. from causing pain, while also keeping your body dry and comfortable.

The coil technology is made of 900 individually wrapped titanium coils to provide additional support while you sleep. During testing, our testers found the coils also helped with stability and minimized motion on the other side of the bed when they moved, making this a good choice for people who share their bed with a partner or pet.

Sealy mattress firmness and feel

The Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid mattress comes in two firmness levels: firm and soft. Our tester opted for the soft mattress and noted that it could be ideal for a variety of sleeper types. We rated the soft firmness level at 6/10, which is medium. Testers said the mattress hugged them nicely around their body, without feeling like they completely sank into it.

Our testers felt this mattress would work well for various types of sleepers. Even though they sank a bit into the foam, it was bouncy enough that they could switch positions with ease. While our testers felt cushioned, it wasn’t the “deep hug” feeling you get with a classic memory foam mattress.

From our tester

“We tested the soft model and found it to have a soft to medium-firm feel that works great for back sleepers, a lot of side sleepers, and lighter-weight stomach sleepers.”

While lighter-weight stomach sleepers may find this mattress to be firm enough to keep their spine in neutral alignment The spine’s natural curves at the neck, middle, and lower (lumbar) sections. , we feel that average or higher-weight stomach sleepers may need a firmer mattress that’s more supportive. Our testers found that the mattress didn’t offer the needed support during stomach sleeping, with their hips sinking into the foam, pulling the spine out of neutral alignment. This may lead to increased or new pain in the long run. In our Reviews Team’s survey of mattress users, discomfort with their current mattress was one of the top reasons given for shopping for a new mattress.

“A mattress can be firm or soft, yet still be supportive,” said Kevin Lees, director of chiropractic operations at The Joint Chiropractic in Scottsdale, Arizona. “Your spine should remain in a neutral position throughout the night. If the mattress is not supportive enough, there may be areas where you sink into the mattress, adding stress to the joints in your spine.”

We think the firm model would work better for stomach sleepers than the soft, while back sleepers and combination sleepers may benefit from both the soft and firm levels. Side sleepers would benefit more from the soft, though our tester noted that because the mattress felt more medium-firm than soft, they still felt some pressure at the hip.

Testers said the materials in the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid felt like high quality. Sealy gives you the chance to try the mattress for 90 nights, but this pales in comparison to some other brands, which give sleep trials for up to a year. Some other brands also offer lifetime warranties, while the Sealy warranty is just 10 years.

From our tester

“While I felt ‘on top’ of this mattress, I also felt supported. The responsiveness makes it great for combination sleepers, and we also think it would be good for couples.”

Sealy mattress performance

Though hybrids don’t always excel in this area, our testers found that movement was fairly isolated on the Posturepedic Hybrid. When our testers placed a glass of water on one side of the mattress and then rolled around and got in and out of bed to mimic a sleeper’s nighttime movements, the drink didn’t spill on the mattress. Good motion isolation The ability of a mattress to keep movement on one side of the bed from affecting the other side. makes this mattress good for people who share a bed with a partner or pet. We also like that the mattress cover is designed to keep bacteria and allergens at bay.

Our testers also appreciated the cooling features built into the Sealy Hybrid Posturepedic, which can potentially bring a lot of relief to people who sleep hot. The mattress has Sealy Chill technology, which, along with its coil technology, should make for a cooler night’s sleep. We gave this mattress high marks for cooling because its 6-inch coil units provide space for air to pass through, and its gel memory foam and cooling fibers resist overheating.

Our testers noted, though, that while the mattress did not hold heat and did provide some cooling relief at night, it was not cool to the touch like some other cooling mattresses are, which was a drawback for us. For comparison, we found that Saatva mattresses with built-in cooling technology offer cooling relief from the time you lie down until you wake.

If cooling is one of your top priorities in a new mattress, visit our review of the eight best cooling mattresses.

When our testers sat on the edges of the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid to test edge support, they found it sank a bit, but they still found it supportive while lying down close to the edge. With the mattress’s 900 coils and reinforced spring along the edges of the bed, we ultimately found this bed had strong edge support.

Sealy mattress pain relief performance

Joint and muscle aches can make it difficult to get to sleep and stay asleep. Research shows that the right type of mattress may ease some pain and stiffness [7] Bolton R., et al. Effects of Mattress Support on Sleeping Position and Low-Back Pain. Sleep Science and Practice. May 10, 2022 . Our testers evaluated the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid in several categories to see how it stacked up when it comes to pain relief.

Our testers said they felt light pressure in the shoulder area and hips when sleeping on their side, but it was minimal. Strong edge support helped to counter some of the pressure points where pain most commonly occurs. The mattress’s gel-infused memory foam gave additional needed lumbar (lower back) support.

Because this model does have a medium-firm feel, the firmness may offer pain relief support to back sleepers.

“There are many medical conditions that have a negative impact on sleep, including pain due to arthritis, nerves, or chronic conditions,” said Lees. “A comfortable mattress can certainly help with pain.”

Warning

If you’re experiencing chronic pain, changing your mattress may not be enough to manage your condition. Pain is often due to a combination of symptoms that require a proper workup, diagnosis, and treatment plan tailored to you. Consult with your doctor to get directed and personalized recommendations for your pain.

Our expert opinion

We love that this mattress has cooling features for hot sleepers, and good responsiveness to allow for easy mobility. This mattress also held up well during motion isolation tests. It’s rare for a mattress to score high in both motion isolation and responsiveness.

The Sealy offers a good amount of pressure relief and provides good lumbar (lower back) support for side and back sleepers. We liked that there was only slight sinkage when lying on the bed, which makes it comfortable for some stomach sleepers as well.

Our team also liked the Sealy mattress cover with Surface-Guard technology, which is designed to protect against allergens like dust.

The 90-day free trial is disappointing, especially since other Sealy models have longer trial options. We also don’t like how this model only has a 10-year warranty while other brands we’ve reviewed have longer warranty periods.

Our recommendation

Frequently asked questions

Comfort is always subjective, but when looking for a Sealy mattress, be mindful of the features most important to you, including cost, cooling technology, edge support, responsiveness, firmness levels, and more.

“While we all have our bedding preferences, the firmness of a mattress can have a significant effect on hip pain. Too firm of a mattress can create painful pressure in the hip area. Mattresses that are very soft actually put stress on the hip because there is a lack of support,” said Tamar Amitay, physical therapist and founder of Thrive Integrated Physical Therapy in New York city.

Sealy provides a trial period of 90 days to try its mattresses at home. If you’re not happy with your mattress after 30 days, you can request a return.

If you prefer shopping in person, you can search for Sealy retail locations or call your local mattress stores to ask if they have Sealy mattresses on their showroom floor.

Sealy warranties its mattresses for 10 years, which is the industry standard.

If you’re looking for a way to save money, Sealy, like most mattress manufacturers, runs sales frequently throughout the year, like Memorial Day, July 4th, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and more. You’ll find current Sealy sales or promotions here.

The dual-layer Posturepedic Hybrid mattress has a gel-infused memory foam layer and a layer of encased titanium coils.

This particular mattress has both soft and firm options. Our tester noted that the soft option ranged between soft and medium-firm and gave it a six out of 10 on our firmness scale.

The price of a Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid ranges from $1,149–$2,378, depending on the size you choose. For a queen-size mattress, the cost (without discounts) is $1,249.
