Our expert take on Saatva Rx

The Saatva Rx is a luxury mattress designed to help sleepers with chronic pain. While Saatva recommends the Saatva Classic for those with everyday aches and pains, adults with chronic pain conditions such as sciatica, arthritis, scoliosis, or herniated discs should find an elevated level of comfort and support with the Saatva Rx. The mattress is endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association and earned a seal of approval from the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations for its patented technology.

Our first impression when testing the mattress was that it had a soft and plush feel with a high-quality cover that was cool to the touch. The cover is made from breathable organic cotton and infused with an antimicrobial treatment to prevent the growth of mold and mildew. The cover also has additional lower back support quilted into the center of the mattress. That zoned support is reinforced by another half-inch layer of gel memory foam right beneath it to provide extra support and durability.

Overall, our testers gave the Saatva Rx a 6.5 out of 10 in the firmness category, which means it has a medium feel. Because the first few layers are designed to provide some sinkage Some sinkage in a mattress provides good contouring and can give the sleeper a feeling of being “hugged” by their mattress, but if a mattress has too much sinkage, it can cause spinal misalignment, especially for back and stomach sleepers. , sleepers will experience a good amount of contouring on the Saatva Rx. Underneath the layer of zoned lower back support, you’ll find a layer of 1,628  microcoils Microcoils are steel wires that are individually wrapped in fabric. They are smaller versions of traditional innerspring coils that are more flexible and less resistant to pressure. sandwiched between two layers of high-density foam designed to contour your body’s natural curves to relieve pressure.

Under that is a second layer of 8-inch coils topped with the brand’s 2-inch Rx Foam Module that sits on top of each coil. This foam layer is infused with graphite and helps promote airflow around the coils to keep the bed cool. Our testers ended up giving the Saatva Rx a 4.5 out of five for cooling, so we feel the mattress does a good job of keeping sleepers cool at night.

When testing the Saatva RX in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions, we felt well-supported in each one. Testers also noted that they stayed “lifted” on the mattress’s surface, with weight evenly distributed while maintaining a neutral spine The spine’s natural curves at the neck, middle, and lower (lumbar) sections . One thing to consider is that higher-weight stomach sleepers may feel like the mattress is too soft and might want to explore firmer options to help support their weight in the mid-section to prevent dipping. Combination sleepers should also be happy on the Saatva Rx because it has a responsive feel, meaning it’s easy to switch positions. Despite the bounce it provides, the mattress still isolates motion well, meaning couples shouldn’t be disturbed by their partner’s movements too easily.

We were impressed by the edge support in the Saatva Rx, giving it a 4.5 out of five in this category. This is important to help adults feel stable when they roll towards the end of the bed or sit on the edge before standing up.

All Saatva mattresses come with a 365-night sleep trial, a lifetime warranty, and free white-glove delivery, which includes complimentary mattress removal and installation.

Bottom line

The Saatva Rx was designed with sleepers who experience chronic pain in mind. After evaluating the mattress’s performance in pressure relief and support and assessing how well it works for different sleep styles, our Reviews Team thinks this is a good mattress for those experiencing pain. Because the mattress has two sections of zoned support in the lower back region, adults with back pain should feel well supported and like their spine stays in a neutral position while sleeping on the Saatva Rx.

The layer of microcoils helps provide additional contouring and pressure relief, and the mattress’s cooling technology will keep sleepers from overheating. While adults of most weight categories should be comfortable, some higher-weight stomach sleepers may want to explore firmer options for additional support.
