Puffy Mattress Review 2024: Expert Reviewed and Tested
Sleeping has a big impact on our overall health, so doing what you can to get a good night of sleep should always be at the top of your list. Problems sleeping are common among older adults and may become even worse if you’re sleeping on a mattress that isn’t comfortable for your needs [1] Tatineny, P., et. al. Sleep in the Elderly. Sep. 2020. Found on the internet at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7723148 .
Choosing the best mattress to fit your budget and your sleeping preferences can be difficult, but it’s an investment that’s well worth the effort.
Our Reviews Team researched and tested two hybrid mattresses and an adjustable bed base from Puffy to help you decide whether these products are a good fit for you and your needs. Keep reading our Puffy mattress review to help you make an informed decision.

What is a Puffy mattress made of?
Puffy makes hybrid and all-foam mattresses. All Puffy mattresses are made with CertiPUR-US® Certified foams, which means they’re tested for quality by an independent source and are made without chemicals like mercury, lead, and formaldehyde.
Covers for each Puffy mattress vary slightly, but each is quilted and made with cooling fibers. Some models incorporate a filling layer beneath the cover that’s made with blended wool for additional cooling and moisture-wicking. You should note that Puffy mattresses are not made with organic materials. If you want to learn more about the best organic mattresses, read our full review.
All mattresses, other than the all-foam Puffy Cloud, are hybrid style. Hybrid means they’re made from a combination of foams and coils. Puffy uses individually encased, contour-adapting coils to provide variable pressure relief in targeted areas. Coils are encased with high-density foam for additional motion absorption and enhanced perimeter support.
Who is Puffy best for?
Both Puffy mattresses we reviewed above are 5.5 out of 10 for firmness, making them medium-firm mattresses. This firmness can accommodate many sleeping preferences and positions, which makes it a great choice for combination sleepers.
We like the Royal Hybrid specifically for side sleepers since it has a plush cover and top layer to contour the side of the body and relieve pressure on hips and shoulders. The favorable sinkage should also help prevent compression and discomfort in the shoulders. For more options, read our full article on the best mattresses for side sleepers.
To help combat back pain, Puffy uses contour-adapting coils in all its hybrid mattresses. The coils are designed to react to changes in pressure, so if one part of your body is putting more pressure on the material than another part, the coils will respond by balancing that pressure, making this a good fit for sleepers with back pain. The coils are also individually encased in high-density foam to help them absorb motion and prevent the coils from bouncing back and causing discomfort while the sleeper is transferring positions. For more information, read our full review of the best mattresses for back pain.
The Lux Hybrid or Royal Hybrid could be a great choice for hot sleepers looking for a mattress to help regulate temperature throughout the night and wick moisture. They both incorporate cooling designs and materials and were noticeably cooler during testing. If you’re a hot sleeper, and want to learn more about your cooling options, read our full review of the best cooling mattresses.
Puffy might not be best for shoppers on a budget since most of their models start at more than $2,000, which is relatively expensive compared to other brands. For more budget-friendly prices, read our review of the best affordable mattresses.
Who should use a Puffy adjustable base?
A Puffy adjustable bed base can be a great way to improve your sleep quality. Adjustable beds offer a customizable sleeping experience while allowing you to adjust your upper and lower body to different angles to help you get better sleep.
The most common benefit of an adjustable bed is the zero-gravity function. This position was originally developed by NASA to mimic a state of weightlessness, which is achieved by creating a 120-degree angle between the torso and knees. This is a great way to keep pressure off the spine and relieve pain.
“An adjustable bed has many benefits, such as relieving aches and pains, reducing snoring, improving posture, and improving blood circulation. An adjustable bed can conform into a variety of different positions. The most common position is the natural S shape, which helps to reduce pressure points in the body. Although an adjustable mattress has many potential benefits, it’s not a one-size-fits-all situation. It’s important to make sure you feel comfortable to get a full night’s sleep.”

Bottom line
Puffy makes high-quality medium-firm mattresses that can be a great addition to your bedroom or guest room. Both the Lux Hybrid and Royal Hybrid provide good sinkage and comfortable contouring with top foam layers and adaptable coils, and both would be a great fit for side and back sleepers.
But neither mattress is particularly great for stomach sleepers since they are likely too soft to offer ideal support for the lower back. The Serenity adjustable base has a simple design that’s easy to use but might not be great for those who want connectivity to smart devices. Overall, Puffy products are less budget friendly than other brands, but with frequent promotions throughout the year you may be able to get products for a large discount.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, Puffy states that all its mattresses are compatible with adjustable bases.
How long an adjustable base lasts greatly depends on usage. On average, adjustable beds last around 10 years. Puffy adjustable bases come with a limited warranty, but the warranty only covers defects in the material or workmanship.
The lifetime of a mattress depends on the usage. When we spoke with a Puffy representative, they said Puffy mattresses can last up to 10 years. Similar to their adjustable bases, Puffy mattresses come with a limited lifetime warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship.
Our Reviews Team gave Puffy a 9.1 rating and DreamCloud a 9.3 rating based on many factors like affordability and quality of the products. DreamCloud mattresses tend to be better for those on a budget since they are generally more affordable than Puffy mattresses, although both use high-quality materials.
