Our Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress Experience
The Midnight Luxe is a hybrid mattress made with foam and individually wrapped pocket coils. The top layers give a soft and cradling first impression, while the zoned coil core provides exceptional lower-back support and pressure relief, making this mattress a great choice for a variety of sleep positions.
Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress
The Midnight Luxe is the middle-tier mattress model offered by Helix. It has a plush pillow top for immediate cushioning comfort and offers exceptional lower-back support and pressure relief from its zoned coil core. These features make the Midnight Luxe a great choice for a variety of sleepers.
The Helix Midnight Luxe is a 13.5-inch hybrid mattress with four layers of foam, individually wrapped coils, and a breathable, soft pillow top. The pillow top comes in two different options: The default cover is made from Tencel, and the upgraded cover is made with GlacioTex. Both are known for their breathability, but GlacioTex is designed to cool the body and draw heat away from the body as you sleep. The GlacioTex upgrade costs an additional $249.
The three layers of foam immediately beneath the pillow top are each designed to contour and cradle the body while providing support that assures spinal alignment and comfort. Each foam has a responsive feel that adjusts based on the pressure applied to the mattress and the sleeper’s movements. Responsiveness makes it easier to move around and change sleeping positions. While Helix rates its firmness as medium, which is 5.0 through 6.9 out of 10, our Reviews Team thinks it’s on the softer end of that range at 5.5 out of 10.
From our tester
“The material feels like it’s conforming to my body without pushing against my lower back, or causing my spine to become misaligned. A lot of the comfort is coming from the plushness of the pillow top and foam layers.”
Our expert take on the Helix Midnight Luxe
While the top layers of the mattress allow for some sinkage, they do so without compromising the overall support of the mattress. That makes this mattress a great choice for side sleepers who want high-pressure areas, like their shoulders and hips, to sink enough into the mattress to prevent uncomfortable posture and misalignment. Our testers scored the Midnight Luxe 4 out of 5 for support.
The Zoned Body Shape Layer is the core of the mattress with up to 1,000 coils—depending on the size of the mattress—with zoned lower-back support. The coils have varying levels of softness to offer support in places where it’s needed (like the lower back) and give softness in high-pressure areas (like the shoulders and hips). This makes the Midnight Luxe not only a good fit for side sleepers but also a good choice for back sleepers and stomach sleepers.
We test pressure relief with a pressure pad that uses colors to show where there is pressure. Blue means no pressure, green is minimal pressure, yellow is medium pressure, and red means high pressure. The Midnight Luxe scored 5 out of 5 for back pressure relief and 4.5 out of 5 for side pressure relief, giving it a combined pressure relief score of 4.75 out of 5. This score helped us choose the Midnight Luxe as the best mattress for sleepers with back pain.
The Midnight Luxe also has a reinforced perimeter for enhanced edge support. This feature can help prevent someone from rolling off the mattress and makes it easier to get in and out of bed. Based on our testing, the Midnight Luxe scored 4.5 out of 5.
Bounce is another feature that makes getting in and out of bed easier by assisting the sleeper’s movement. Mattresses with a coil core often have good bounce, while all-foam mattresses usually do not. The Midnight Luxe scored 4 out of 5 for its bounce.
On the other hand, mattresses that have good bounce and aid in movement are usually not great at isolating motion throughout the mattress. This mattress scored 2 out of 5 for its motion isolation, which means light sleepers who sleep with a partner or pet will easily feel movement happening on the other side of the mattress.
The fourth and final layer of the mattress is made of high-density foam. It adds durability and support to the overall structure of the mattress. It’s also a good transition layer if you choose to pair the Midnight Luxe with an adjustable bed base. The bottom layer will cushion the coils when the bed moves through positions, which helps prevent damage to the mattress. With an adjustable base, you can take advantage of zero gravity or an elevated upper body setting to help access additional pressure relief you can’t get with a flat bed frame.
At this time, Helix doesn’t offer white-glove delivery or mattress removal services. Instead, every Helix mattress is shipped to your home compressed and rolled inside a box. It will need 30–45 minutes to reach its full height after unpacking. For detailed instructions on unboxing and setting up your mattress, visit this page and select the Helix Midnight Luxe from the list.
Helix offers a 100-night trial to test your new mattress, but you must complete a 30-day break-in period before you can return it. If you don’t love it after 30 days, you can initiate a return by completing and submitting this form.
